Yesterday, I had a productive day in the store and a productive day in the gym as well. I did more weight training than normal and it left me with that good burn. After getting in a decent length uphill power walk on the treadmill and doing my normal little weight routine, I joined a couple of friends, John and Alyssa, over at the weight room, which I don’t normally go to. I felt the burn by the evening and I can’t deny how much I like that feeling of soreness. It’s good stuff. Aren’t you glad to know that?
After I closed the store up, I headed to my friend Pepper’s room for a little Yoga with Adrienne followed by a long chat over a cuppa. Pepper leads the Monday yoga class I almost always go to and is a super rad chica. She has had all kind of awesome adventures and she is a big bike-packer, which is something I would like to try my turn at. She’s also done bike/pack rafting trips, which is also on my list. I want all the adventures. As she shared pictures with me while we were chatting I asked her if she has read, The Sun is a Compass by Caroline Van Hermet and she had, which didn’t surprise me. I read that book to my Nana during our time together last Spring and Caroline’s adventures in Alaska parallel some of Pepper’s, especially the bike/pack rafting.
Pepper gave me the nicest compliment at the end of our evening. She told me I met the two beers and a puppy test for friendship, which I’d never heard of and thought was a pretty neat assessment after she explained. It goes like this:
The test is: In order to find out how you actually feel about someone, ask yourself: “Would I have two beers with this person?” And: “Would I allow this person to look after my puppy over a weekend?”
Some people are no and no. These people are to be avoided at all costs. Some people are yes and no. These people are two be cautiously trusted. Some people are no and yes. These people are no fun but they make the world a better place — for puppies, especially. And some people are yes and yes. These people are wonderful people and your life and work are better for having them in your life. Seek them out. Collaborate with them. Enjoy their company.
Other than that it’s been a quiet start to the week and now I’m tying up loose ends at work, as it’s the eve of my monthly two-day weekend.
Woo-Hoo.
