Day Seventy-Seven

When I started toying with the idea of wintering, I was having lots of little conversations about it with people who had wintered and summered before. They all said winter was their favorite and I would agree. It’s a much better life down here during the winter. The conversation that sticks out is the most is the one where I was told that people who thrived had projects for the winter. I’d edit that to say people who had projects and motivation to do the projects, haha.

I saw a post while I was extremely busy scrolling earlier today. It was a word of the day post and the word for today was hurkle-durkle. Why do I share this with you? Because the definition of hurkle-durkle is my existence on my day off-it’s a two hundred year old Scottish term that means to lounge in bed long after it’s time to get up. Catch me, hurkle-durkling every Thursday. This week is my two-day weekend for July, too, so I’ll most likely be hurkle-durkling tomorrow as well. Thanks internet, thanks for validating my day-off existence.

The earlier coffee highlight of the day was challenged in the afternoon. Sometime after lunch, I opened my door to the ghastly light of the hallway. On my doorstep was a brown paper lunch bag. In it, a Cadbury’s Crunchie bar. My most favorite candy bar. The bag had a note written on it that said, I found this wee treat on my travels today and thought of you-enjoy! A most thoughtful surprise from my friend Jess.

I mentioned Crunchie bars in her presence a few weeks back and it is so sweet that she heard and remembered that tidbit of info. Jess is a dual Kiwi/’Merican and the host of the Friday night radio show on station 80’s Power Hour with Jess. By day, she works in the Berg Field Center (BFC) testing and repairing all the gear that will be used by scientist and their teams in the field this summer. Her work center is almost like an industrial REI.

Lucky me to be surrounded by such lovely peoples!
