I made a placeholder for this post yesterday, putting the title and a quick line in. The line was something along the lines of stabby-stab-stab-stab. That sums yesterday up. I am chalking it up to my final day on the steroids for my back, which is significantly better now. I couldn’t tell you the last time I have taken any kind of medicine other than ibuprofen. Francesca alerted me that it would make me eat all the foods and also angry. The foods thing was real after the first dose. I was super hungry all week, but the anger didn’t make an appearance until yesterday and it showed up in full force. Everyone and everything annoyed me. All day.
Today is a new day, and I am no longer in rage mode. I’m tired and subdued. Luckily there weren’t any casualties yesterday either. I gave fair warning to pretty much everyone I crossed paths with. It happens. This morning I got up and showered and headed over to Gallagher’s to restock before brunch bar started. Then I stopped into the coffeehouse for a couple cups of coffee before heading to the store for the afternoon. One of the guys brought an entire virtual reality gaming system down here with him and had that set up on one of the TVs in the coffeehouse. I watched them playing on that while I sipped my morning coffees.
I had a volunteer working in the store for the first hour of the day, so I took advantage of the help and went and grabbed to go brunch plate from the galley. I think today was probably my most favorite brunch day since I arrived down here. All my favorites were out; ahi-tuna, baked brie and Dutch baby which is a sweet version of Yorkshire pudding. Everything was so good I went back for seconds and of course, more coffee. Yum.
There is a science fair being put on in the galley this afternoon. Anyone on station was able to make an entry. I am hoping to sneak out of the store for a bit to take a look at the projects people came up with. We are a pretty creative bunch down here, so I am sure it will be good. Later this evening there is also going to be a science talk from the two scientist/research associates that are down here this winter. That’s after the store closes so I will get to be present for that. I went to every single science talk over the summer season and am looking forward to the one tonight especially since it’s not a norm for winter. After all, that’s why we are all down here. Because, science.
