Day Forty-Six

Saturday was a long, but great day. After not much sleep, I was up early for my coffee shift, which was a little lighter than normal since many were sleeping off the Scott Base party from night before. After coffee, I headed over to Gallagher’s to restock and help decorate. The theme for the evening was a carnival masquerade and the committee went all out with making decorations.

As soon as the store closed at two, I headed over to the galley to help get the bar all set up. There was a cocktail hour before dinner, then a crazy spread of food that our amazing kitchen team put together, complete with lobster tails. Then after dinner everyone headed over to Gallagher’s for dancing and debauchery. The cocktail hour and dinner were the masquerade side of the theme, and then the after party at Gallagher’s was more of the carnival theme. I bartended the afterparty with Nick and we were nonstop from 8-11PM pouring drinks. Then shortly after 11 we closed up the service part of the bar and hit the dance floor with all our friends.

While Thanksgiving and Christmas were special events during the summer season, the biggest celebration of the year is definitely mid winter. The galley was completely transformed and everyone got really dressed up. It was such a great and well needed morale booster for the station. The festivities continue this coming weekend as well. It’s the community’s two-day weekend and our Fourth of July celebration is going to be on Saturday. ‘Merica!
