The Whole Wide World

Busy day in MacTown. It started off with a very windy beverage pull this morning. So cold. Then after the lunch time hours at the store, I popped over to our fuels department and helped unwind over a mile of fuel hose while the fuelies checked the line for any damage. This is one of their winter tasks and it takes a handful of bodies to accomplish because the fuel line is heavy and you have to drag it our the length of the fuel barn over and over…and over again to inspect the entire thing. It is a process that takes at least a couple of volunteers to accomplish since there are only two fuelies over winter. After dragging line for about an hour and a half, I got some cardio in at the gerbil gym and then a quick shower before heading to dinner and back to the store for evening hours.

The wind was brutal today. The walk to the fuel barn is about five minutes and the tops of my legs were bright red from the short walk. The fuels barn is heated but the ground is metal and cold and I lost sensation in the bottom of my feet while I was in there. My boots are not proper work or hiking boots so they aren’t insulated. It took some time on the treadmill before I could actually properly feel them again.

Skua Central is located next to the fuels barn so I stopped by there on my way back. Skua is essentially a free thrift store on station. Anything people don’t take back home with them ends up in skua. I woke up this morning to an invitation to our mid-winter dinner which was on the ground outside my door. It’s on the 24th and the theme is Carnival Masquerade. So at Skua I was on the hunt to see if there was anything I could use to make my costume. I did find a couple little treasures in Skua that I think will work well for making a mask for the event.

Tonight I am headed over a neighboring dorm lounge to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with some friends. Despite all the physical work and also streak of social evenings, I am still feeling energized. Maybe that is how it goes. Stay a little busier and socialized and get more energies?
