Today is day two of struggling to get out of bed in the morning. I know it wasn’t too long ago that I wrote about the struggle, but then there was a stretch, be it short, of not mentioning it, which means I was doing okay. And now I am not. Despite the struggle, I still managed to get up and to the gym before work yesterday, which was for the best of course. As I lay in bed procrastinating I kept telling myself there was time in the afternoon to get the gym in, but I also knew that if I got it out of the way in the morning it would free the afternoon up for writing, or whatever else popped up.
When I got to work yesterday, I found out that we were expecting the worst weather we have seen yet, beginning late last night and hanging around for a couple of days. As a result of the expected bad weather, Tuesday’s bev pull was bumped up to yesterday afternoon, so of course I was glad I had not procrastinated on my morning gym session and made a mental note to stop the procrastination attempts. The struggle is real though. Hearing that the storm was brewing helps me feel less guilty; I’ve been told the weather really does affect us physically and mentally, and I believe it. Going through all of that and struggling to get out of bed once again today is proof…or just mental gymnastics. I don’t know, but what I do know is that I spend a lot of time in my head and it’s exhausting.
All of that aside, it was another full day. After dinner and work, I had my weekly yoga class followed by a visit to the station craft room. Our broadcast engineer, Katie, was kind enough to share her artistic talents with whoever chose to show up for her screen printing session. In the summer season, she designed a really awesome print and made the screen print for it. The design is heaps of penguins doing many of the station jobs, and down at the bottom it says Made in Antarctica!
Last night, anyone who brought an item to screen print was able to put the design on their item of choice. Lots of people made a trip to skua which is the station’s free thrift store, leftover treasures (and some trash) of McMurdans past and present. I had a black tee-shirt I’d previously found in skua and took that to the screen printing class. Now I have a custom made Antarctica tee-shirt. I’ll take a pic and put it on Instagram in the near future.
